Mike Sang - Chief Executive

Mike Sang was appointed the Chief Executive for Ngāi Tahu Holdings Ltd in January 2013.

Prior to this he was Chief Executive Officer for the Office of Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu (appointed in March 2011) after initially joining Ngāi Tahu in 2009 as Group General Manager Service Delivery to lead our Te Rūnanga group shared services arm, incorporating Communications Procurement, Business Information Services and Financial Administration.

Mike has previously worked at PGW Wrightson as the Chief Financial Officer. In 2003 he joined Wrightson as CFO and he was initially involved in the acquisition of North Island competitor Williams and Kettle and subsequent merger with PGG to create New Zealand's largest rural services company. From here, Mike was made CFO PGG Wrightson and headed up the traditional finance and treasury functions and also lead internal audit, strategy and planning and general counsel and company secretary for the expanded group. At various times he was also in charge of IT, program management, procurement and the central financial processing functions.

In his previous role he was Group Manager Finance (CFO) for Airways Corporation and in 2003 the winner of the New Zealand Institute of Management, Young Executive of the Year.

Allan Hickford - CFO

Allan has held the position of CFO of Ngāi Tahu Holdings Group since March 2009. Prior to this, Allan was Commercial Manager of Ngāi Tahu Property from June 2007 and subsequently General Manager – Property Development prior to moving to Holdings.

Prior to this Allan has had wide ranging executive roles as CFO and other senior management positions in both the commercial and chartered accounting sectors along with leading national and provincial sporting teams.

A proven leader, building and maintaining a high performance culture through effective relationships, performance management and communication to provide clear leadership and promote and foster a team culture consistent with organisational and team values. A very strong financial and analytical mind including strategic and tactical planning skills.

Allan studied at Canterbury University where he achieved his double major commerce degree in Economics & Accounting.

Matthew Slater - CIO

Matthew Slater was appointed to the role Chief Investment Officer of Ngāi Tahu Holdings Group in June 2012.

Prior to Ngāi Tahu, Matthew was Associate Director at Bank of New Zealand responsible for managing corporate & institutional banking client relationships throughout the South Island.

Matthew's prior experience was in banking in Wellington and New York covering credit risk, deal structuring and relationship management across a diverse range of sectors such as financial institutions, property, Telco-media tech, consumer goods, and leveraged finance.

Matthew majored in finance at University of Otago.

Chris Ford - Group General Counsel

Before taking up his current role Chris worked as Legal Counsel at Solid Energy for 4 years, General Counsel of a public company in London for 8 years (Robert Walters Plc)  and as a solicitor for the Christchurch firm "Duncan Cotterill". 

Chris has a general commercial law background and is responsible for managing the legal team who provide legal advice across the Te Rūnanga Group. 

Chris is also the Company Secretary for the Ngāi Tahu Holdings Corporation Limited.
